IEP meeting at the Parent – Teacher conference in Missouri public school

Public schools often position events for their convenience.  Sometimes parents are misled to think they have to follow the school’s decision when the school’s actions are not consistent with state regulations. For example, a parent is contacted by e-mail that the IEP meeting will be held “tonight” at the “Parent-Teacher conference”.  “Parent-teacher conferences” are not the same as an IEP meeting.  Sufficient notice must be given to a parent(s) within a reasonable amount of time, and, a parent is allowed to reschedule at least once.

Advocates at The IEP Center help parents solve IEP problems by providing information so they can advocate for the child with special needs.  Don’t be bamboozled!  Waiting and hoping for problems to go away allows our children to regress.  Hoping the problem will go away will only delay the problem.
